MUST BUY BOOKS FOR POLYMER / PAINT ENGINEERING STUDENTS
Ask any question to google and it will give you an answer BUT ask him questions starting with WHY? / HOW.?
It will surely mislead you somewhere else and that's where your thinking ability gets lost.
A lot of Professors share their experience and analyzed data in hardcore reference books and that's why they are so costly but when it comes to making a presentation to us, we simply search online and didn't invest that amount of time in searching in the books.
This is the main reason where we lack in giving a proper reason to answer like
Why only specific solvent, raw material, is used, why specific parameters like temperature are maintained
Eg. If you Searched for an initiator for a specific polymer it will give you dozens of options but when it comes to selection only a book can guide you.
When entering polymer engineering you must have 2 books which are not so costly and NOT AVAILABLE ONLINE..?
1. Polymer Science by V. R. Gowarikar (Common for Polymer and Paint Tech)
No one can give up this book to anyone also if he has completed his education. It is the real companion for Polymer Engineer throughout his / her education. The author has focused on the brief introduction of all the topics you are gonna face in theory classes of Polymer Chemistry. This book also has information on a lot of Polymers that we know in day to day life. A brief introduction to all the topics is necessary for Quizzes and GATE exam / PET exam for Ph.D. hence this book is preferred by every Polymer and Paint Technologist whether he is at Diploma, Bachelor, Mtech, or Ph.D.
Pharma Students / Ms.C Polymer Students looking for an entry in Polymer Stream ( Ph.D.) must go for this book.
Main Advantage is It is Cheaper than any other book

2. Experiments in Polymer Science by D. G. Hundiwale
(Common for Polymer and Paint Tech)
After Coming to the Second Year of your Journey in polymer technology this book is very much recommended. The Topics which are covered are Synthesis of Polymers and Identification of Different Values of Polymer i.e Acid Value, Iodine Value, Hydroxyl Value, and much more. These values are important in paint industries as well as polymer industries. The Book Solve dificulties faced by chemists working in R & D, Questions and answer of polymer related industries and can be used as a reference book. It is equally useful for those who do not have a background in polymer chemistry but are working in the area due to a shortage of hardcore polymer manpower.
A non-technical person can also find out information and carry out experiments to find the values.
3. Basics of Paint Technology part I Book by V. C. Malshe (Must buy for Paint Tech)
This Book is very much important in the beginning life of a paint technologist it includes everything that a paint technologist must know but there is some problem in online availability of this book if you are admitting to the paint technology you must buy it because it is also going to become your companion throughout the education.
( Don't buy xerox copies of any book unless they are very expensive)
4 Outlines of Paint technology by W M Morgans
This Book is also a good choice for a Paint technologist and available online. It also has the basics of paint technology like in Prof. Malshe's Book. Even your author of this blog has a hardcover of this book.
5. Organic Coatings: Science and technology By Pappas (Must read for Paint Tech )
Yes, this is the Ultimate book an Industry / Individual Must have in its library but an individual cant buys it easily it costs more but it is the ultimate book for a paint technologist to grasp and analyze anything.
6. “Textbook of Polymer Science” by F W Billmeyer (only for polymer Engineers)
This is the most sold textbook in polymer science and deals with the theory and practical concepts of all the major topics of polymer science, engineering, the technology that includes polymerization, solution theory, fractionation, molecular weight measurement, solid-state properties, structure property relationships, methodologies of preparation, fabrication, and properties of plastics, fibers, elastomers which are commercially very important.
Other than Traditional Books :
Polymer Science and Technology: Plastics, Rubber, Blends, and Composites by Premmay Ghosh
This book skillfully blends and integrates polymer science, plastic technology, and rubber technology. The fundamentals of polymerization, polymer characteristics, rheology, and morphology, as well as the composition, technology, testing, and evaluation of various plastics, rubbers, fibers, adhesives, coatings, and composites, are comprehensively presented.
The book is highly suitable for all entrepreneurs and professionals engaged in the production of as well as research and development in polymers. It will also be found immensely useful by advanced level students of physics, chemistry, materials science, and electronics specializing in polymers, as well as students of electronics, chemical, and metallurgical engineering having courses in polymer technology/materials science and technology.
